There’s something special about a field of sunflowers in full bloom, row upon row of bright golden flowers, grown right here in Britain and ready to bring a little sunshine into homes across the country. This year, we’ve had even more reason to celebrate, with more than 158,000 British-grown sunflower stems harvested as part of our biggest sunflower season to date.

It’s a milestone we’re incredibly proud of, and one that reflects the growing appetite for seasonal, home-grown flowers. The record harvest was sourced almost exclusively from 360 acres in Spalding, Lincolnshire, where our fantastic British growers have been cultivation some of the brightest and most vibrant sunflowers around.

Each year, we’re blown away by the quality and freshness of these stunning blooms, cultivated by our fantastic British farmers. Before harvest, the farms in Spalding are a sea of golden yellow; once picked, each stem is hand-tied and lovingly arranged by our locally appointed florists before being delivered directly to customers’ homes across the UK and beyond.

For us, British-grown is best because it means fresher, more seasonal flowers that have travelled fewer miles and spent less time in transit. It also allows us to support skilled UK growers and florists while giving customers beautiful blooms with a more considered journey from field to vase.

We’re also proud to be one of the only online florist in the UK to receive The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Company Award, achieving a 100/100 Ethical Index Score in recognition of its wider sustainability commitments. From eliminating single-use plastics to supporting efforts to preserve British wildlife, we’re continuing to make more responsible choices across its supply chain – including prioritising British-grown stems, shorter flower miles and locally appointed florists to help reduce its carbon footprint.

How to care for your Sunflowers:

Trim the stems: Trim 5–10cm from each stem at a 45-degree angle to help your sunflowers absorb water and stay fresh for longer.

Remove some leaves: Trim any leaves which fall below the waterline and keep the vase clean and free of harmful bacteria which could shorten the life of your flowers.

Keep them in a clean, sturdy vase: Sunflower heads are full of heavy sunflower seeds that can weigh down the flower, especially when they’re fully open. Keep them in a clean sturdy vase which can support their weight with cool, fresh water.

Add flower food: Every 123 Flowers bouquet is complete with flower food, which is filled with the essential nutrients to keep the water clean and your flowers bright.

Keep them away from direct sunlight: Sunflowers love a nice, sunny spot, keep them away from direct sunlight or warm areas where they can wilt, such as radiators, fans and draughts

Refresh the water: Keep your bouquet refreshed with cool and clean water every 2- 3 days.
